Gabriela Hearst Unveiled as Chloé’s New Artistic Director

The French fashion house announced Gabriela Hearst as its new artistic director, effective immediately. The Uruguayan-born, New York-based designer will continue as creative director at her namesake brand alongside her new role.

Ms. Hearst, a Uruguayan-born women’s ready-to-wear and accessories designer who founded a namesake luxury label in 2015. Her brand has gained respect and recognition across the industry for its honed focus on casual elegance, sharp tailoring and use of sustainably sourced textiles.

Hearst’s first runway show for autumn/winter 2017 was produced to have as low as an environmental impact as possible, and from there her commitment to the issue has only grown. Now, she sources deadstock materials, opts for eco-friendly fabrics like linen and cuts out more damaging ones such as cotton, and chooses to use recycled yarns whenever she can. Chloé said that Ms. Hearst would continue as creative director at her own business in addition to taking on the position of artistic director at Chloé.
